The Nick Malafronte Fund
Donations are now being accepted for The Nick Malafronte Fund. On July 14, 2011, Nick suffered a severe spinal cord injury in a swimming accident as he was working as a life guard at the Island Grove Pond in Abington. Nick’s life was saved through the heroic efforts of his friends and fellow life guards at the Island Grove and was then Medflighted to Mass General Hospital where he underwent 8 hours of surgery to stabilize his spine. Nick currently does not have any feeling below his chest but his first words when he awoke from surgery were “I am going to walk again!!” and if you know Nick, you know he will!! Nick is a 2010 graduate of Abington High School where he was a member of the Varsity Football, Hockey and Tennis Teams. Nick was also named Mr. Abington by his fellow students in 2010 and is currently enrolled at Westfield State College. Nick and the Malafronte Family, including his parents Vic and Diane, and his brothers Jack and Sam (current students at AHS), have a long road ahead of them. After recovering from his spinal surgery Nick will be moved to a rehabilitation facility to begin that phase of his recovery. All donations will go directly to family as they deal with the health and well-being of Nick. Checks should be made payable to: “The Nick Malafronte Fund” c/o Abington Bank, 6 Harrison Avenue, Abington, MA 02351.
