Firearms Information

 

THE PROCEDURES SET FORTH HEREIN SHALL APPLY TO APPLICATIONS FOR THE FOLLOWING NEW/RENEWAL:

LTC (LICENSE TO CARRY) CLASS ‘A’ or ‘B’
FID (FIREARMS IDENTIFICATION CARD) CLASS ‘C’ or ‘D’
LICENSE TO POSSESS A MACHINE GUN CLASS ‘E’

A.  APPLICATION - All applicants must complete and sign the application form for New/Renewal of Firearms (attached).  Provide all the information that is requested on the form.  Failure to provide information or providing false information will result in the denial of the application and if the information is false, the police department seeking a criminal complaint in the district court.

B. RESIDENCY – All residents must provide proof of residency of the Town of Abington.

C. AGE - All applicants shall provide proof of age in the form of a birth certificate, driver’s license or positive photo identification with date of birth

D.FINGERPRINTS - All new applicants shall be fingerprinted. Renewals if necessary.

E. FEES MUST BE BY BANK CHECK or MONEY ORDER to “Town of Abington”

** (NO CASH OR PERSONAL CHECKS WILL BE ACCEPTED)**

 

LTC Class ‘A’, Class ‘B’, FID Class ‘C’, or Class ‘E’- $100.00
FID Class ‘D’ (Restricted Mace/Chemical Spray) New = $25.00, Renewal =Free
Persons over 70 years of age exempt from paying a fee for LTC or FID
(Effective immediately, the fee for FID applicants under the age of 18 is now $25.00)

F. BASIC FIREARMS SAFETY CERTIFICATION – Certification IS statutorily required for applicants for a Firearm Identification Card or License to Carry Firearms unless the applicant for the issuance of a FID or LTC was lawfully licensed with a FID or LTC on June 01, 1998. The applicant for the renewal of a FID or LTC lawfully licensed with a FID or LTC after June 01, 1998 needs to provide a copy of the BFS certificate for their A.P.D. file. The certification requirements as stated herein shall not apply to an applicant for a firearm identification card, Class ‘D’, for the sole purpose of purchasing or possessing chemical mace, pepper mace, pepper spray or other similarly propelled liquid, gas or powder designed to temporarily incapacitate.

G. APPOINTMENTBefore making an appointment make sure you meet all the requirements set forth.  When all requirements are met you may call 781-878-3232  x5312 or come to the Abington Police Department front desk and ask to speak with the Firearms Licensing Officer to schedule an appointment. If the firearms licensing officer is unavailable he will call you to schedule an appointment.

DO NOT LEAVE YOUR APPLICATION PAPERWORK
ALL Materials needed to fulfill your requirements MUST be
brought the day of the appointment  
Anyone not having in their possession all required material will be rescheduled
